As ABCN celebrated its 20th anniversary, our Chair Brett Clark reminded us of a powerful saying often quoted in business circles that perfectly captures the spirit of our work:

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

This proverb speaks to the heart of what ABCN has stood for over the past two decades. Since 2005, we’ve grown from a bold idea into a national movement, powered by a shared belief that every young Australian deserves access to opportunity – regardless of their background.

ABCN’s strength has always been its community – our network of member companies and corporate partners, passionate educators, and committed volunteer mentors. It’s through this deep collaboration that we’ve been able to achieve lasting impact.

Reaching this 20-year milestone is a moment to pause and reflect – but also to look ahead. Phil Gardner, CEO said, ‘We are really passionate about continuing to improve what we do, to increase the value that our wonderful members and mentors place on partnering with us, and to find new ways to enrich the schools we work with and improve the impact and opportunities for students.’

The world of work continues to evolve rapidly, and so must we. Together, we’re preparing students from low socio-economic status schools with the skills, confidence, and networks they need to thrive in an increasingly complex world.

As ABCN’s founder, Mike Hawker said, ‘Let’s treat this not just as a celebration but as a recommitment. Let’s keep building bridges. Let’s keep turning potential into progress.’

So to every mentor, partner, supporter and student who’s been part of the ABCN journey – thank you. We didn’t get here alone. And as we look to the future, one thing is certain: we’ll go even further, together.

Here’s to the next 20 years!
